How to use this daily step tracker

  1. Set a goal that fits you. The default is 8,000 steps. Use the step goal calculator to get a target for your age and a week-by-week ladder to reach it.
  2. Log once a day. Copy the number from Apple Health, Google Fit, Samsung Health, a Fitbit or a basic pedometer. Tap any past square on the calendar to fill in days you missed.
  3. Watch the calendar fill in. Pale squares are days under 60% of your goal, bright orange means you hit it, and the darkest orange means 125% or more.
  4. Check the patterns. The weekday chart shows which days sag. Most people find one or two weak days; fixing those is easier than adding to good days.

Why a streak and a calendar work

A visible chain of days is a simple habit cue: you don't want to break it. The streak here only counts days you met the goal set for that day, so it rewards consistency, not one heroic Saturday. If a streak does break, the 7-day average and the weekday pattern are better signs of progress than any single number.

Pair the log with a plan. The walking plan builder turns your goal into a 4 to 12 week step challenge, and the steps to miles converter shows how far your steps really took you.

Questions people ask

Is this step tracker free, and do I need an account?

It is free and there is no account. Your step log, goal and settings are saved in your own browser with localStorage, so nothing is uploaded unless you choose to ask the AI coach, which only receives a numbers-only summary.

Does it count my steps automatically?

No. Browsers cannot reliably count steps in the background, so you type in the number from your phone, watch or pedometer once a day. It takes a few seconds, and you can fill in missed days from the calendar or import a CSV.

How is my streak counted?

A streak is the number of consecutive days on which you met the goal you had set for that day. If today is not logged yet, your streak still counts up to yesterday, so it will not reset until the day is over.

What happens if I change my daily goal?

Each logged day keeps the goal that applied when you logged it, so raising your goal later does not rewrite old streaks. The new goal applies from today onwards.

How do I move my log to a new phone?

Use Export CSV to download your history, then Import CSV on the other device. The file is a plain date, steps, goal list you can also open in any spreadsheet.

What is a good daily step goal to start with?

Start about 1,000 steps above what you already average and add 500 to 1,000 a week. Research on adults links roughly 8,000 to 10,000 steps a day under age 60, and 6,000 to 8,000 over 60, with the biggest drop in health risk. The step goal calculator builds a personal ladder for you.
